The home of Jefferson Davis and Abraham Lincoln, Kentucky is known as an “old school” state, which might raise some concern among regular Kratom consumers. Fortunately, support for political parties is evenly distributed here and all attempts to ban Kratom have failed thus far. In other words, Kratom is currently legal in Kentucky, but this may not always be the case.

Is Kratom Legal in Kentucky in 2019?

As of 2019, Kratom is legal in Kentucky, but the situation remains precarious in this respect. Back in 2016, Kentucky Senate Bill 136 included text that attempted to classify Kratom as a Schedule I substance. If the bill had passed that year, Kratom would have become illegal to use, sell, or grow throughout the state. Fortunately, the legislative act did not accrue enough support in the Senate, which ensured that Kratom would remain legal in Kentucky – at least for the time being.

In 2017 and 2018, however, new attempts to ban Kratom gave regular consumers even more reasons to worry. After all, many of them used this plant to manage chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and other medical conditions that would have otherwise completely changed their lives.

A bill emerged in 2017 that aimed to introduce a new class of controlled substances called Schedule A. The latter would indiscriminately include substances that had similar effects to those that were already banned and, since Kratom was known to have opioid-like properties, it would have likely been included on the list. The bill passed the initial hearing, but due to vigorous opposition from the local Kratom community, it has since been postponed.

For now, Kratom consumers can rest assured that the substance remains legal and unrestricted in Kentucky. Continual public support for Kratom is, however, more important now than it has ever been in the history of this state.

Can You Buy Kratom in Kentucky?

Numerous smoke shops in Louisville and throughout the state of Kentucky can sell different Kratom strains, but it’s not always safe to buy your powder locally. Small shops such as these tend to sell sub-par products to increase profits, mainly due to the fact that there is no strong feedback mechanism in place to deter them.

When you purchase from a reliable online kratom vendor, on the other hand, you can rely on reviews from thousands of happy or disgruntled customers. In addition, some sellers – such as The Golden Monk – go the extra mile by performing rigorous quality and safety tests for their products.
